Workshop 6
December 2nd 2004 - Winchester Guildhall
The Winchester Guildhall hosted MRS workshop 6, which
was an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss a draft overall
philosophy and principles for managing resources in Hampshire over the
period to 2020. The main topics for discussion were the emerging
preferred solutions for unavoidable waste and minerals, and the
assessment criteria for, and broad identification of, sites for
recycling and unavoidable waste facilities. There was also an abridged
session of this in the evening at the Hampshire County Council offices
in Winchester.
Both sessions were a great success as frank and open
discussions were held on the above issues enabling the MRS to move to
the next stage. A key outcome was the recognition that a range of new
recycling and recovery facilities will be needed if recycling / recovery
is to be maximised, use and landfill reduced and net self-sufficiency
achieved.
The next stage in the development of the MRS is that a
draft document will be produced, whereby it will be presented to
stakeholders for comment before it is finalised. This presentation event
has been arranged for Wednesday 2nd February, at The Great Hall in
Winchester.
The intention is that this document will act as the
primary local reference for future work on the Minerals & Waste
Development Framework, the Project Integra Municipal Waste Strategy and
the Natural Resources Initiative.
