Material Resources Strategy

Role of Individual Resource Working Groups

What are the working groups doing?

The working groups are developing the briefing notes debated at Workshop 3 into sector strategies that will form part of the final Material Resources Strategy document. The working groups will develop two recycling & recovery scenarios for each material sector as part of the sector strategies.

These are:

  1. A ‘business as usual’ scenario but having regard to essential change, e.g. the requirements of existing and new legislation , regulations, statutory targets, etc
  2. A ‘stretching best practice’ scenario that sets out the best that could reasonably be achieved with a concerted effort, having regard to ‘state of the art’ approaches overseas and in the UK.

These scenarios will be presented and debated by stakeholder at Workshop 4 on July 14 2004.
Click here for details of this workshop.

How will their work be done?

The working groups will be taking into account stakeholder questions and ideas from workshop 3, carrying out further research, and using the members of the group to gather information and expertise. Each working group may take a different approach but will be based on good communication between working group members either through meetings, conference calls, e-mail groups or one to one interviews. The sector strategies will be developed during May and June and information will be sent out to all stakeholders in advance of the next workshop.

Who is in the working groups?

Each working group has a nominated lead officer from one of the MRS partner organisations (Hampshire County Council, Southampton City Council, Portsmouth City Council, Project Integra and Hampshire Natural Resource Initiative) will take overall responsibility for producing the resource briefing note.

The experts involved in workshop 3 will continue their involvement in the working groups. Those stakeholders that signed up at workshop 3 to be involved in the working groups will represent the MRS stakeholders. Entec will have a role in the operation of the working groups, providing an independent view to ensure balanced information sources are used and all views are considered.

The members of each working group are shown below.
