Welcome to the
Material Resources Strategy
Hampshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework
The 'core' Planning Strategy of the Hampshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework has now been submitted to Government. A six week public consultation period now follows. The consultation will expire on 13 July. Copies of consultation documents etc are available at libraries, district council offices and information points. Adverts will appear in Hampshire's press next week.
The Strategy was produced jointly by the County Council, in partnership with Portsmouth and Southampton City Councils and the New Forest National Park Authority. It sets out the overarching planning strategy for minerals and waste until 2020, and features a 'resource management' approach that increases the reuse, recycling and recovery of wastes to reduce waste production, landfilling and the amount of primary materials extracted.
Should you wish to see the consultation documents they are available on the minerals and waste website: http://www3.hants.gov.uk/mineralsandwaste/planning-policy/development-framework/core-strategy.htm
Following the consultation the Strategy will be examined in public by the Planning Inspectorate. This is scheduled for January - February 2007. Please forward any queries from the public to the Minerals and Waste Planning section on: 01962 846591.

What is More from Less?
The More from Less document is the outcome of seventeen months of
stakeholder led discussions on the Material Resources Strategy (MRS). The MRS
addresses the use of all material resources,
including municipal, construction, commercial and agricultural
waste.
The strategy is tackling Hampshire's waste problem by minimising
the extraction and production of primary resources, such as gravel, by
better process and product design, and by maximising the use of secondary
(or recycled) materials.
The partners involved in MRS development - Hampshire County Council,
Project Integra, Hampshire Natural Resources Initiative, and the two unitary
authorities of Portsmouth and Southampton - are keen to involve local
representatives in developing policies and plans.
Since its inception, the MRS has engaged in constant stakeholder
dialogue with local businesses, environmental groups, residents associations
and anyone with an interest in having an input into how this project
develops. Regular stakeholder events have taken place to discuss each step
in its development. Details of these workshops and other background details
are available in the 'how was this developed' section.
